Community Development and Youth |
I started KeeleandFinch on facebook-twitter-blogging, in mid-September 2012, as a way of giving back to the neighbourhood and with hopes of making a positive impact in a community unfairly characterized as crime-ridden and where our youth are called 'thugs'. Despair, poverty, violence, drugs and crime was not my focus because the 'real' media is first in line when something bad happens at Keele and Finch or Jane and Finch, etc. No media trucks arrive when our youth are doing something good in these areas . . . that's where I come in. As a proud resident, my main focus was resource-sharing for community development, including neighbouring communities, and positive youth-oriented projects, programs and opportunities. I made it a point only to share issues that made a difference and enhanced the lives of young people. As well, this was a personal journey . . . a self-imposed treatment for certain anxieties I was experiencing and I wanted an innovative and creative outlet. I have always believed that helping others was a positive approach to improving your own situation. And to all the beautiful people I have had the pleasure of meeting, whether face-to-face or on facebook, I sincerely thank you for your friendship.
"I plan to continue doing what I love . . . meeting good people; working to improve the community; helping others; and sharing positive resources & information that, I hope, benefits our communities and our youth. My ONLY request is that we, as a society: Not judge others and be respectful to one another because everyone is on their own personal journey in this life. I just hope that I'm making a positive contribution in community development and in the lives of our youth." ~ gLoRiA
