Even if you close your eyes, it won't go away . . . until you speak out . . . about the stigma associated with mental illness.
I have taken some of my own experiences and combined them with those of people I have spoken to over the years and have successfully created some interesting characters.
To Whom It May Concern is a short story about five people of colour who are dealing with mental illness in silence due to fear of being judged by family, friends and society. Because people think speaking up and asking for help is a sign of weakness . . . this illness is kept quiet.
I, for one, believe that when I candidly speak about what I'm going through, whether through writing and/or general conversation, it is my own form of personal non-medicated therapy for mental illness.
