Today, along with other interested individuals, I took a tour of the Black Creek Community Farm, located in Toronto. The farm is a project lead by Everdale, a farm-based charity that engages, educates and empowers diverse communities through the growing and sharing food.
This farmhouse is located on the Black Creek Community Farm. |
The tour consisted of people from the neighbourhood, as well as people from other neighbourhoods. |
Anan Lololi (far right), Executive Director of Afri-Can FoodBasket answered questions regarding history of the garden. |
The farm is uniquely situated between a major urban center (Jane & Finch) and a major university (York). |
Everdale is joined by three all-star partners: Foodshare; Afri-Can FoodBasket; and Fresh City Farms. These organizations have come together to launch a ground-breaking urban farm. The farm will be an intergenerational place of learning where people will reconnect to the story of their food, a new generation of urban farmers will be trained and the community will gather to celebrate.
The farm is located at 4929 Jane Street (just south of Steeles) and supported by York University - Ryerson University - World Crops Project - Toronto and Region Conversation Authority. For more information, visit www.everdale.org/blackcreek
